Obituary
Esther McCloud died Thursday, February 5th 2015 at Kansas
Christian Home.
She was born Esther Mae Hummel on May 13, 1922 to Reuben
Dell and Edith Annice (Wyncoop) Hummel in Newton, Kansas. She grew up and
attended school in Towanda and El Dorado, Kansas. After working at Boeing
Esther enlisted in the United States Women's Army Corps, and was a WW II
veteran serving from 1943-1945, where she met and married the love of her life
Billy Marvin McCloud. They were married November 2, 1945. Daughters Jannice
Anne and Nancy Kaye were born to this union.
As a young girl Esther answered an altar call and committed
her life to Christ. Esther continually memorized the scriptures as well as many
hymns that were special to her. She was a member of Newton Bible Church where
in years past she taught Sunday School, VBS and was in a number of ladies Bible
studies. She worked with the ladies on missionary projects and was a Pioneer
Girls Pal. Esther was an avid reader, especially books on the scriptures, and
kept up on current and worldwide affairs as well as local events. She always
enjoyed camping and fishing, baking, sewing and crafts. She especially enjoyed
working in her yard.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband Bill, brothers
Mervin and Harry Hummel, twin sisters Thelma Elder and Velma Betty and sister
Irene French.
She is survived by brothers Roy (Betty) Hummel of Fall
River, KS and Bob (Barbara) Hummel of Mountain Home, AR; daughter Jan McCloud
and Nancy and (Richard) Parsons both of Newton, KS; grandsons: Christopher
(Jerri Rene) Parsons of Hutchinson, KS and Andrew (Jerri Kay) Parsons of North
Newton, KS; Great Grandchildren Jessica (Kyle) Werner, Danielle, Ryan and
Kaitlyn Parsons all of Hutchinson, Mackenzie Parsons of North Newton and three
week old great great grandson Jaxston Werner of Hutchinson, KS. She is also
survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 7,
2015 at Newton Bible Church with Pastors Matt Kruse and Ted Veer presiding.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday evening at Petersen Funeral Home
with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral
home. Private family burial will be in Whitewater Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Newton Bible Church
in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
