Obituary
Joy Elmira Salmans, 81, died Monday, February 9, 2015, at
the Kansas Christian Home in Newton.
She was born Joy Elmira Worley on June 8, 1933, to Chester
and Hermie (Goller) Worley in Jetmore, Kansas. She graduated in 1951 from
Hanston High School, Hanston, Kansas.
On June 29, 1951, she married the love of her life, Norman
F. Salmans, in Jetmore. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and
grandmother. She worked at St. Francis Hospital as an Xray technician for
several years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking and gardening.
She especially loved spending time with her family. She loved the time she once
spent in the Circle 8 Square Dance Club and serving on the St. Mary's Catholic
Church Altar Society.
Joy is survived by her husband, Norman F. Salmans, Newton;
four children, Norman "Leon" (Greta) Salmans, Park City; Joseph
"Joe" (Julie) Salmans, Cheney; Jack (Wanda) Salmans, Moundridge; and
Sharon (Kelby) Harrison, Newton; eleven grandchildren: Brenda Ewert, Ogden, Utah;
Barbie Schultz, Spearfish, South Dakota; Brandon Salmans, Spencer, Iowa; Isaiah
Salmans, Manhattan; Hannah Salmans, Hutchinson; Rebekah Salmans, Cheney; Shay
Salmans, Wichita; Lacey (Rashid) McCowan, Omaha, Nebraska; Keaton Harrison,
Grandview, Missouri; Amelia (Fernando) Fierros, Wichita; and Quinton Harrison,
Lindsborg; 12 great-grandchildren: Devin, Willie, Macie, Colton, Alanna, Wyatt,
Danicka, Daytona, Hunter, Mercutio, Temperance, and D'Angelo; and two
great-great-grandchildren: Chloe and Kinsley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Nancy;
a son, Chris; her brother, Maurice Worley and wife, Mary; her brother, Claude
"Bud" Worley; grandchildren, Jason, Tiffany and Faith.
Arrangements are pending with Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.
