Robert L. Watkins 87, Wellington
Robert L. Watkins of Wellington died on
Tuesday (Jan. 17, 2012) at Brookdale Senior Living/Sterling House in
Wellington at the age of 87. Robert was born the son of Homer and
Gwen (McFarland) Watkins on Sunday, Dec. 14, 1924, in Newton. On Nov.
19, 1977, Robert and Lee Swanson were united in marriage in Wichita
Together they celebrated nearly 26 years of marriage. He retired
following a long career with the railroad. Robert also served his
country during World War II in the
U.S. Marine Corps.
Survivors include his son, Dr. Jeff
Watkins and his wife, Joni of Hearne, Texas; daughter, Teri Will and
her husband, Dr. Lawrence Will of Wellington; son, Roger Swanson and
his wife, Marilyn of Austin, Texas; son, Dennis Swanson and his wife,
Norma of Shattuck, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
sister, Barb Hollingshead and her husband, Chuck of Newton; brother,
Mac Watkins and his wife, Glenda of Marion; and sister-in-law,
Lorraine Watkins of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; wife, Lee in 2003; son, Mitch Watkins; and brother, Bill
Watkins.
A private, family interment will be
conducted at a later date.
