Robert ‘Bob’ J. Minor
NEWTON — Robert “Bob” J. Minor,
90, passed away Thursday (June 4, 2009) in Newton.
He was born on Oct. 24, 1918, the son
of Mary F. (Bond) and John D. Minor in Rinehart, Mo. They preceded
him in death.
On Oct. 17, 1941, he married Rachel F.
Zimmerman in Nevada, Mo., at First Christian Church. She survives of
the home in Newton.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army,
serving with the 6th Infantry Division in the Pacific theatre during
World War II. He was a part of the New Guinea and Luzon campaigns,
where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, among
other commendations.
During his lifetime, he was a member of
the V.F.W. and also had a membership with the Masonic Lodge of
Richards, Mo. He was a past master of Lodge. He also was an active
member of First Christian Church in Newton.
Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting and
watching baseball. Bob retired in 1983 as the superintendent of the
Water Department in Newton.
Other survivors include a son, Steve
and his wife, Michelle, and two granddaughters, Bridget and Delaney
Minor, all of Lenexa; and a sister, Marjorie Fern of Kansas City, Mo.
He also was preceded in death by four
brothers, Forrest, Floyd, Norman and Pat; and a sister, Louella.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m.
Sunday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, with the family
greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m.
Monday at First Christian Church in Newton. Pastor Gary Bell will
preside.
Burial will follow at Greenwood
Cemetery in Newton, with Fort Riley presenting the Honor Guard.
