Obituary

Mary M. Smith, 61, of Newton, died Tuesday (February 24, 2015) at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born on April 14, 1953 in El Dorado, Ks., the daughter of Ben L. and Doris A. Long Smith. Mary was raised in the Potwin area and graduated from Fredrick Remington High School in 1971.

After graduating, she moved to Newton and went to work at Kinder Manufacturing where she was a Supervisor until it closed. Mary later went to work the Dept. of Children and Family Services in Newton where she was a Human Services Assistant for the last 29 years.

Survivors include her brother Raymond Smith and his wife Nancy of Rose Hill, Ks.; and her sister Devesta Young and her husband Robert of Potwin, Ks. Since Mary didn't have any children, she was known as "Nana Mary" to her nieces, nephews and their families, Jason Kelly, Ryan and Rachel Young and Matthew, Adriane and Grant Bowlin and Jude and Julian, Robby Young and Lilli, B.J. and Jennifer Smith, Chloe and Brayden, Jon and Heather Smith, Jenny Smith, Alaya and Nehmiah.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her dear friend Cathy Kelly.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday (March 3, 2015) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Sunset Lawn Cemetery in El Dorado.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday 1pm til 8pm, where the family will receive friends between 6 and 7.
