Obituary
Edwin J. Regier was born on June 28,
1923, at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton to Bernhard (Ben C.) and
Agatha (Andres) Regier. He passed away at the age of 91 on Jan. 10,
2015, at home.
Edwin was a lifelong member of First
Mennonite Church in Newton, where he was baptized at the age of 18.
On May 2, 1950, he married Ella Kroeker. They were blessed with six
children, 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Ella, and a
sister (Anna Harder). Children and their families are: Jerry and
Donna (deceased) Regier; children, Rachel and Chris Pardee, Melanie
Regier, and Greg and Rachel Regier; Jan and Haig Antranikian;
children, Valerie Antranikian (deceased), Justin and Sarah
Antranikian, Isaac Chuck and Bev Regier; children, Laura and Greg
Myers, Luke, Aaron and Sarah; Ben and Andrea Regier, Charlie; Becca
Regier, Ron Regier, James Regier, Wes Regier, Tim Regier; Ruth and
Dwayne Abrahams; Nathan Abrahams and Liz Weidner, Kristen Abrahams,
Mark and Amanda Abrahams and Jolene; Kaitlin Abrahams; Dwight and
Janet Regier; children, Daniel Regier and Sara Rickard, Miriam
Regier, Peter Regier; Ken and Amy Regier; children, Erin Regier,
Austin Regier, Addie Regier and Eli Regier.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; a brother (Herman Regier); a sister (Clara Schmidt); a
daughter-in-law (Donna Regier); and a granddaughter (Valerie
Antranikian).
Edwin was active on many boards:
Mennonite Central Committee Relief Sale, Butler Rural Electric
Association, Bethel Deaconess Hospital, Walton State Bank, and
Kidron-Bethel Retirement Center.
Edwin farmed east of Newton all his
life. It was something he loved to do, but he also found time to
restore a model T, two Model A's, and four International Harvester
tractors. He loved playing banjo with family and friends, and could
be found at coffee every morning. He was known for his quiet, deep
faith, his love for the Lord, and his love for his family.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.
Thursday, Jan. 15, at First Mennonite Church, 429 E. First St.,
Newton. A visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at
Petersen Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends
from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Interment will precede the service at 9:30 a.m.
at Greenwood Cemetery.
