Obituary
Merle Ellen Weyer, 97, of Hesston, formerly of Marysville,
died Dec. 10, 2014, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 16, from 5 until 8
p.m. at Hesston United Methodist Church, Hesston.
Merle was born April 19, 1917, in Beatrice, Nebraska, the
fifth child of Charles William and Eva Irene Simpson Burns. At the age of 12,
she was baptized and joined the First Christian Church in Beatrice. She
graduated from Beatrice High School in 1935. Prior to marriage, she worked at
Hesteads dime store in Beatrice for 6 years.
She married Leonard Alvin Weyer on April 25, 1948, at the
First Christian Church in Beatrice. They were lifelong farmers in the Marietta
area. Merle was a devoted farm wife and supported her children and
grandchildren in 4-H and other activities. She was a long time member of the
neighborhood Friendship Club and active in her church. She and Leonard enjoyed
several local pitch and pinochle card groups.
Merle is survived by her children, Marcia Hahn and husband,
Allen of Hesston, and Ed Weyer and wife, Kathy of Oketo; grandchildren, Janelle
Hahn of Somoto, Nicaragua, Karen Hahn of Hesston, Scott and Alicia Hahn of
Pittsburgh, PA, Darby and Mark Simpson of Gilbert, AZ, Pete and Julie Weyer of
Topeka, and Lucas Weyer of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren, Brynlee
Weyer and Thomas Simpson; and Leonard's sisters, Norma Huntington of Wymore, NE,
and Evalyn Holman of Mesa, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard on October
8, 2006; her parents; sister, Bernita Cederberg and husband, Carl; brother,
John Burns and wife, Iris; and siblings who died in infancy, Wilma Eleanor
Burns, Ivan Paul Burns, and Charles Simpson Burns.
