Obituary

Elizabeth R. Unruh, 90, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014, at Kidron Bethel Healthcare.

She was born March 8, 1924, in Elbing to John A. and Justina (Wiebe) Busenitz. On Sept. 10, 1947, she married Oliver R. Unruh at Emmaus Church in Elbing, and he survives of the home.

Elizabeth and Oliver were longtime Hillsboro residents living in North Newton for the last 12 years. She was a former member of Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro and a current member of First Mennonite Church in Newton.

Elizabeth was a retired registered nurse and especially enjoyed mental health nursing during her career. She was active in First Mennonite Church and an avid reader. She greatly enjoyed world travel with her husband and enjoyed special trips to the Ukraine, Middle East, and has visited all 50 states. Her family was very important to her, and she greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving family and many friends.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, Oliver of the home; sons: Vern and his wife, Sherry Unruh of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Charles and his wife, Lynn Unruh of Marion; daughters, Viv and her husband, Ziad Nabhani of Greenville, South Carolina, Carol and her husband, Dave Abrams of Phoenix, and Trish and her husband, Bob Miller of Goshen, Indiana; and one brother, Art and his wife, Carolyn Busenitz of Whitewater. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Norman Dale Unruh; and brothers and sisters: John Busenitz, Herman Busenitz, Justina Regier, William Busenitz, Albert Busenitz, Edgar Busenitz, Margaret Thiessen, Hedwig Wiebe and Ben Busenitz.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at First Mennonite Church, Newton, with Pastor Anita Kehr presiding. Private family interment will be at a later date in Haven of Rest cemetery, Hillsboro. There will be a gathering and meal with a time of sharing following the service at First Mennonite Church.

Memorials are suggested to Western District Conference Library, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
