Obituary
Harold W. Seyfert, 93, died Nov. 20, 2014, at Kidron Bethel
Healthcare Center, North Newton.
Harold was born May 12, 1921, in rural Barton County. He was
the son of Fred and Carrie Arensman Seyfert. He was a long-time farmer in
Barton County, raising wheat and beef cattle, as well as maintaining a small
dairy for a number of years. He also worked for USD #354 for 20 years as a
custodian and bus driver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving
from 1942 to 1946, and primarily at Pearl Harbor.
On Oct. 7, 1944, he married Evadine Thorne at Beaver Friends
Church, Beaver. Upon his discharge from the service, he and Evadine began
farming in Russell County, and later taking over the family farm in Barton
County.
He was a member of Beaver-Shannon Friends Church until its
closure in the late 1990s, and then transferred his membership to the Claflin
United Methodist Church. He was active in church, teaching Sunday School
classes and serving on many administrative committees. His faith was very
important to him.
Harold is survived by children: daughter, Karen Sue
DeGrazio, Newton; son, Dennis Lee Seyfert and wife, Sharon, McPherson; and
daughter, Cindy Kay Sheffield and husband, Mike, Edmond, Oklahoma;
grandchildren, Adria DeGrazio, Barry DeGrazio and Nicole Sheffield; and
great-grandchild, Ryan DeGrazio.
He was preceded in death by parents, Fred and Carrie
Seyfert; wife, Evadine Willena Seyfert; and sister, Arvela Riemann.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov.
24, 2014, at Hosington Cemetery, with Rev. Gene Langhofer presiding. Visitation
will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral
Home, 415 N. Main, Hoisington, KS 67544.
