Obituary
Mildred Lorene (Chambers) Walton passed away at her home on
Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, in Kansas City, Missouri.
Mildred Lorene (Chambers) Walton was born on April 19, 1917,
on a farm in southeast Harvey County near Whitewater, to Charlie D. Chambers
and Mary (Manhold) Chambers. She grew up and attended schools in Harvey County.
Mildred married Harold Walton on Oct. 9, 1938, in the Presbyterian Church in
Halstead. They moved to the farm at Yates Center on March 9, 1939, where they
raised six children. Harold passed away on Oct. 29, 1990.
Others preceding her in death were an infant son, her
parents, four sisters and six brothers.
Survivors include four sons, Don (Sandy) Walton of Wichita,
Harry (Liz) Walton of Wichita, Dick (Marlyn) Walton of Yates Center, and Gary
(Saundra) Walton of Newton; two daughters, Barbara (Lynn) Crumrine and Mary
(Marvin) Filley, both of Kansas City, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren;
six great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Luella Hunsaker of Emporia; one
brother, Ronald Chambers of Pittsburg, California; and also many nieces,
nephews and a host of friends.
Mildred (Millie) was a member of the Methodist Church, the
Better Homes Unit more than 50 years, the Women's Willing Workers Club (aka The
Loyal Community Club) for many years, a lifetime member of the Yates Center
Historical Museum, and a member of the Yates Center Senior Center for many
years. Mildred loved playing pitch and canasta, and she also loved to dance.
She loved to play the keyboard and recorded a CD at the age of 96.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the Yates
Center Senior Center or the Methodist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at
Campbell-Jones Funeral Home in Yates Center.
