Irma J. Mahoney, 88, died Friday (April 15, 2016) at Asbury Park in Newton. She was born June 9, 1927, at Enid, Oklahoma, to Frank and Lois (Cox) Jones. She grew up in Garber, Oklahoma, and had been a Burrton resident for over forty years.

Irma was also a member of Burrton United Methodist Church, U.M.W., and Order of the Eastern Star. She worked as a columnist for the Wichita Eagle and Burrton Graphic and retired as an assembler for Eaton Corp. in Hutchinson.

On Aug. 2, 1969, she married James Mahoney in Wichita. He preceded her in death Oct. 31, 1994.

Survivors include son, William (Elaine) Green, Wichita; sister, Vista Lett, Sherman, Texas; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Downs.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Apr. 19, at Burrton United Methodist Church with Rev. Kim Benson officiating.

Memorials may be given to the church, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Asbury Park in care of Kaufman Funeral Home, Halstead.
