Roy L. League 1936 - 2014 Obituary Roy L. League, 77, died on Friday, May 2, at Newton Medical Center. Roy was born on June 8, 1936, to Kenneth and Mildred (Benckendorff) League in Wichita. He married Joan Y. Gardner on July 6, 1958, in Andover. They were married for almost 56 years in July. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve, achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He was a former owner of "Parts Incorporated and Industrial Parts" in Great Bend. Roy was a big fan and collector of HO scale Trains. He and Joan had moved to Newton recently and he enjoyed all of the train activity in Newton. He was a great animal lover and had a special fondness for his dogs. He had a great sense of humor and was a very devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Joan League; children, Pam Redinger and her husband, Robert, Mark League and his wife, Lori, Kevin League, Kim Blankman and spouse, Chris, and Mat League and his fiancée, Debbie; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mildred League. Memorial services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. The family will greet friends before and after the service. A memorial has been set up for Caring Hands Humane Society of Newton. Petersenfamilyfuneralhome.com
