Marvin Ewy
Obituary
Marvin Ewy was born in Newton, November 18, 1934. Growing up
on a wheat farm, he attended a one-room elementary school; he went on to
graduate from Newton High School in 1952. After four years of construction
work, Marvin earned BSE and MS degrees from Emporia State University and spent
three further years in post graduate study at the University of Oklahoma. He
taught American history at Emporia State, Oklahoma University and East Central
Oklahoma University. In 1966 he entered the life insurance business. He retired
as an executive with American Fidelity Companies in 2008 after 37 years of
service. Marvin earned the Chartered Life Underwriter designation. He was a
member of the Society of Financial Services Professionals and the National
Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. He served as an Adjunct
Professor of Business at Oklahoma City Community College and held a seat on the
College's Insurance Education Advisory Council. He was on the Board of
Directors of Community Health Centers, Inc. from 1975 to 1981 and held the
position of Secretary-Treasurer from 1979 until his term on the Board expired.
Marvin was a member of the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Council on
Economic Education and held positions of Secretary - Treasurer and President of
the Board. During his career with American Fidelilty he represented the company
as a member of the State Advisory Committee for the Oklahoma Citizen Bee.
He was preceded in death by his parents Waldo and Sarah
(Dirks) Ewy and his first wife Rebecca. Marvin is survived by two brothers,
Harold and wife Joan of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Ralph and wife Cheryl of Moore,
Okla., two sisters, Erlene Farr of Derby and Karen Sueram and husband Rick of
Syria, Va., his wife Diana (Sommer) Ewy, three sons, one daughter, their spouses
and ten grandchildren.
