Obituary
Hazel L. (Flook) Gordon, 99, died on March 9, 2014, at the
Newton Presbyterian Manor in Newton.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1914, in Canton.
Hazel married Thomas Gordon on Feb. 21, 1942, in San Luis
Obispo, Calif. He preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1993.
Hazel graduated from Southwestern University in Winfield
with her teaching degree. She then taught for more than 24 years as a home
economics educator. She most recently taught at Newton High School for a number
of years. Prior to teaching, she was employed as a KGE demonstrator.
Hazel was a very social individual and very avid in playing
bridge with her friends. She also enjoyed reading, traveling and just spending
time with other people. She loved social interaction, cooking and sewing. She
was a member of the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Newton.
Preceding her in death were her parents; spouse; two sons,
Thomas H. Gordon III and Bradford K. Gordon; and four sisters.
Surviving her was her grandson, Jason C. Gordon and wife,
Melissa Stucky, Lawrence.
Cremation has taken place; there are no services planned at
this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with the
Newton Presbyterian Manor or the Newton Public Library. Donations may be mailed
to 120 E. Broadway, Newton.
