Obituary

Joan Rankin, 83, died on Feb. 8, 2014, in Newton.

She was born on Jan. 16, 1930, in England, the daughter of Margaret (Benson) and William Purves.

Joan was a professional ice skater for the Ice Capades in England and visited several countries while performing. Her hobbies were making dollhouses, painting and going to play bingo.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Jack Rankin; two sons, Michael Hall and Robert Steinle; and one brother, Jim Purves.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Hall and wife, Nancy, and Loren Hall Jr.; a daughter, Barbra Marteney, all of Newton; one sister, Veronica Blomfield of Nairobi, Kenya; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Columbus Avenue Church of Christ at 101 N. Columbus, Newton.
