Obituary
Steven W. (Sarge) Mills, 62, died on March 17, 2014.
Steven Wayne Mills was born on Dec. 21, 1951, at Hutchinson,
the son of Carl and Rose Marie Hoffman Mills. He married Glenda Kohler on July
26, 1974, in Lincolnville.
Steven was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Newton. He
was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 971, serving as current
commander, member of the American Legion Post 2, member of the Fraternal Order
of Eagles, member of the Military Order of the Cootie of the U.S. He was past
commander of American Legion Post 231 in Halstead and past Chef de Gare of the
local 40/8 promenade. He was past 5th District V.F.W. Commander.
Steven joined the Army, serving in Cam Rahn Bay, Vietnam. He
completed his 21 years of military service in the Army National Guard. He was
employed as a truck driver for Pluswood Distributors in Newton.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents; a sister,
Linda; and a brother, David.
Steven is survived by his spouse, Glenda; daughter, Shannon
Garton of Newton; daughter, Kathleen Gridley and her husband, Robert of Brown
Deer, Wis.; son, Brandon Mills and his wife, Nina of Newton; brother, Carl
Mills Jr. of Panama City, Fla.; and brother, Gary Mills of Wichita. He is also
survived by four grandchildren: Baily Garton, McKayla Garton, Linnea Gridley
and Amethyst Mills.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. March 21, 2014, at Zion
Lutheran Church in Newton. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. March 20, 2014, with the family receiving
friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.
