Obituary
Douglas Stephen Osburn, 82, died on Jan. 30, 2014, at Asbury
Park Greenhouse in Newton.
He was born on July 31, 1931, in Fredonia, the son of
Charles Calvin and Verna Opal (Housley) Osburn. He married Phyllis Ivy on Nov.
17, 1955, at Neodesha. They have been married 58 years.
Doug was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He
worked as a dispatcher for the Santa Fe Railroad. He was there 54 years before
entering retirement.
Doug had several hobbies during his lifetime, including
woodworking, auto mechanics, yard work and coaching baseball for three years
for his son Mike. During his earlier years, he enjoyed playing chess. Doug
enjoyed his family and being home, spending time with them.
Preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters,
Betty, Georgiana, Shirley and Dorothy; and a brother, Charles Jr.
"Bud."
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, Newton; five sons and
their families, Steve (Alice) Osburn, Wichita, children, Molly, Annie, Samantha
and Charlie, son, Scott (Rhonda) Osburn, Newton, son, Dan, daughter, Emily
(Aaron), son, Mike Osburn, Newton, children, John (Emily), Brooks and Sara,
Doug Osburn, Kansas City, Mo., and son, Alex, son, Casey (Jennifer) Wichita,
son, Matthew; three sisters, June (Russell) Slater, El Dorado, Theenie (Syl)
Posch, Lawrence, and Nancy (Yog) Sehgal, Arlington, Texas; five
great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
