Lowell Jay Goering
Obituary
HESSTON - Lowell Jay Goering died Feb. 3 at Schowalter Villa
in Hesston at the age of 75.
He was born to Paul P. and Lydia Kaufman Goering on March
28, 1938, in Newton. He graduated from Moundridge High School and attended
Bethel College. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Hillsboro Industries in
Hillsboro for 30 years, also working at Hesston Corporation for 15 years and
Hillsboro Et Cetera Shop following retirement.
Lowell was active in the Trinity Mennonite Church in
Hillsboro. He loved humor and submitted one line quips in a column
"Whiz-dumb" in the Hillsboro Free Press for a number of years.
Lowell married Judith Ann Schmidt on Aug. 11, 1963, at
Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, Inman.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Hesston; sister, Elaine
(Paul) Jantzen of Hillsboro; brother, Verne M. (Ruth) Goering of Moundridge;
son, Greg Schmidt Goering (Jalane Schmidt) of Charlottesville, Va.; daughter,
Sheryl (Jeff) Goering of Ellicott City, Md.; and five grandchildren, Mercedes
and Inez Goering of Charlottesville, Va., Olivia, Caroline and Daniel Goering
of Ellicott City, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. A family visitation will be held
at Schowalter Villa Chapel, 200 W. Cedar, Hesston, on Friday, Feb. 7, from 6 to
8 p.m. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Hesston
Mennonite Church, 309 S. Main, Hesston.
Memorials may be designated for Schowalter Villa Good
Samaritan Fund or Mennonite Central Committee through the Miller-Ott Funeral
