Obituary
HUTCHINSON - Wanda B.
Hofen, 89, died Feb. 27, 2014, at Hester Care Center.
She was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Raymond, the daughter of
Joseph Earl and Blanche (Calhoun) Miller. Following her graduation from Sylvia
High School, she married Joseph Gene Applegate on June 3, 1943. Gene died Jan.
24, 1948. She then married LaVerne W. "Vern" Hofen on July 21, 1950,
in Sylvia. Vern died June 7, 1988.
Wanda retired from the Harvey County Treasurer's Office and
the Stafford County Clerk's Office. She was a longtime member at Eastwood
Church of Christ.
She is survived by: daughters, Carmen (Applegate) Briar and
husband, Vic of Canon City, Colo., Deanna (Applegate) Franz and husband, Dalice
of North Newton, Lee (Applegate) Henry and husband, Barry of Florence, Ore.,
Judy (Hofen) Geer and husband, Chuck of Hutchinson; sister, Patty Parker of
Hutchinson; brother, Ron Miller of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Bev Miller of
Texas, Betty Miller of Sylvia, Millie Miller and Myrna Robinson of Hutchinson;
brother-in-law, Junior Applegate of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gene
and Vern; sisters, Millie Belden Colle and Betty Jo Coons; and brothers, Don,
Jerry and Bud Miller.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at
Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum, with Jimie-Wray Mead officiating.
Burial will be 1:30 p.m. in Peace Creek Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m.
Friday.
