Obituary
Barbara Miller Friesen died Jan. 5, 2014, at Newton Medical
Center.
She was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Newton. The daughter of
Arnold and May Andes Miller, she attended school in Hesston and was a graduate
of Bethel College. She married Orlando J. Friesen in Moundridge on Aug. 21,
1950. She taught elementary school in Harvey and Reno Counties, as well as at schools
in Lawrence and Overland Park. Barbara also was a substitute teacher in the
Buhler school system from 1980-1988.
From 1957 to 1990, Barbara and Orlando lived in Buhler,
where they raised their family and Orlando practiced medicine. During this
time, she was an active member of the Buhler Mennonite Church. Upon Orlando's
retirement, they moved to North Newton, where Barbara continued to be active in
the Bethel College Women's Association and became a member of the Bethel
College Mennonite Church. Barbara loved to travel, and with Orlando, she
visited many countries.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Friesen and wife, Monta
Lee Dakin, Littleton, Colo., and Phil Friesen and wife, Lisa Lister, Colorado
Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Kathryn Campbell and husband, Dennis Campbell,
North Newton; a brother, Kenneth Miller, Hesston; a sister, Dorothy Yoder,
Hesston; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orlando; her
parents; and sister, Wilma Fury.
Family burial service will be in Buhler Cemetery on Friday
morning. The memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Bethel College
Mennonite Church, North Newton, with Pastor Heidi Regier Kreider. Visitation
will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with family greeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at
Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.

Committee or Bethel College Mennonite Church, all in care of Petersen Funeral
Home, Newton.
