Obituary
Marie Parnell, 87, died on Monday, Dec. 30, at Newton
Medical Center.
Marie was born on Feb. 7, 1926, in Wichita to William and
Rura (Waits) Peek.
Marie married Ray Dean Parnell on June 16, 1951, in
Wellington. He preceded her in death.
Marie retired from the Wichita Eagle, where she was employed
as an advertising clerk.
She enjoyed playing bingo and card games. She was a
volunteer for the Sewing Saints at El Dorado hospital and was a member of the
Red Hat Society. As of recently, she was an avid fan of basketball.
She is survived by her two daughters: Anita and Gary Roberts
of Newton, and Dianne and Marv Pfingsten of Mulvane; one brother, Don Peek of
Bethany, Okla.; four grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rura
Peek; husband, Ray Dean Parnell; son, Dwayne Ray Parnell; brother, Manco Wayne
Peek; and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at
the Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday,
Jan. 5, 2014, at the funeral home. The family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m.
to greet friends. A private family committal will be held following the service
in Rose Hill Cemetery at South Haven.
Marie's death was very sudden. She was very full of life
just days before her death. The family is saddened with her passing, but they
will remember her for her love and warmth for her family.
