Lavina Krahn
Obituary
Lavina Krahn, 84,
went to sleep and woke up in her Savior's arms on Dec. 7, 2013.
She was reunited with her mother and father, Fred and
Malinda Wuthrich; her brothers, George, Roland, John, Harold and Lester; her
sisters, Helen and Marian; her niece, Doris Veer; her daughter-in-law, Marcia
Krahn; along with a host of relatives and friends.
Lavina was born on Feb. 27, 1929, on a farm near Whitewater.
She began her journey to her heavenly home at an early age as she accepted
Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young girl.
She lived most of her life on a farm outside Whitewater,
except for 11 years when she lived with her family in North Dakota, and the
last three years, when she lived in Newton. Lavina graduated from Whitewater
Grade School and High School. She attended Hesston College and graduated from
Grace College of the Bible in Omaha, Neb. She was a long-time member of Swiss
Church in Whitewater.
Lavina loved her Savior most of all and spent her life
communicating with Him, following His leading and raising her family to know
Him. Her most passionate desire was for all her children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. She had a constant
ministry in the church. In her little church in North Dakota, she played the
piano, directed Christmas programs and taught Sunday School. When the family
moved to Kansas, she continued to teach Sunday School, help in Bible School and
Awana, and later on she coordinated the cookie ministry.
Lavina loved her family. She was married to Ben Krahn on
Nov. 2, 1951. They had three sons, Steve, Doug and Don, and one daughter,
Cindy. As her family grew with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lavina
and Ben rarely missed an event. They loved all the ballgames, band concerts, music
concerts, church programs, plays and graduations. If someone was in it, they
were there, and they never grew tired of seeing their family's activities.
Lavina also loved to cook. She was the assistant cook at
Remington High School for many years, until her retirement. Her good friend,
Maxine Motter, along with Maxine's niece, Halicia, cooked many meals for the
students and faculty at RHS, but Lavina's most fun was when her children and
later grandchildren attended the school. She took great pride in watching them
from the window of the kitchen.
Lavina also loved KU basketball, Wichita State baseball, the
Remington Broncos, and any team her grandchildren were on. She loved anything
Andy Griffith was in, and she could watch "Little House on the
Prairie" over and over again. She loved her country, anything red, white
and blue, four-part harmony music, traveling the country with Ben, playing
cards with friends, matching jewelry, "The Lawrence Welk Show" and
yard work.
She is survived by husband, Ben of Newton; sons, Steve and
wife, Julie of Derby, Doug of Hutchinson, Don and wife, Leslie of Towanda;
daughter, Cindy Roth and husband, Ken of Wichita; 14 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Riley of Wichita; and a host of nieces,
nephews and cousins.
There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lamb
Funeral Home, Whitewater. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
Swiss Church, Whitewater.
A memorial has been established with the Ponca Bible Camp,
in care of the funeral home, Box 358, Whitewater, KS 67154.
