Obituary

Marlin Lee Frey, 80, died Monday (Dec. 16, 2013) at the Asbury Park Greenhouse in Newton.

He was born on March 14, 1933, in Goessel, the son of Edward H. and Augusta Neufeld Frey. Marlin graduated from Goessel High School in 1952. He later graduated from Bethel College and received his master's degree from Emporia State College.

Marlin married Luella Deane Dreier on May 25, 1957, at the Highland Church near Newton.

He began his teaching career in 1956 in Park City, then he transferred to the Hesston School District. In 1965, Marlin began working in the Newton School District, where he was principal of Northridge Elementary School, was director of the Alternative School Program as well as the Adult Education/GED Program until he retired in 1994. Marlin was quite involved with the GED Program across the state and founded the first GED Program for Over the Road Truckers.

Marlin was a member of the Bethel College Mennonite Church, Mennonite Men's Chorus, Barbershop Chorus and the Kiwanis Club. Marlin enjoyed staying active with many hobbies and family adventures.

Survivors include his wife, Deane of the home; son, Gary Frey and his wife, Jennifer of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; daughter, Kim Stahly and her husband, B.J. of Newton; grandchildren, Josiah Frey and his wife, Cali, Zach Frey and Alec Stahly; great-grandson, Judah Frey; great-granddaughter, Taylor Stahly; and sister, Nila Chambers.

Marlin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond Frey; and sister, Earla Critchfield.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday (Dec. 23, 2013) at the Bethel College Mennonite Church. Private family inurnment will take place at the Restlawn Garden of Memories.

A memorial has been established with the Bethel College Mennonite Church Building Stones and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS 67114.

There will be no visitation or viewing as cremation has been effected.
