Lamont Alvin Woelk
Obituary
Lamont Alvin Woelk, 89, of Marion,
passed away at his home on Sunday, June 13, 2016. In lieu of
services, Lamont would like it very much if you take a few moments to
enjoy your family.
Lamont was born June 20, 1927, in
Newton, to Alvin and Linda (Galle) Woelk. He was the oldest of five
children. Most of his childhood was spent on the family farm east of
Walton. He graduated from Walton High School in 1945.
Lamont attended Bethel College in
Newton from 1948 to 1952, where he met Lillian Loeffler. They married
June 3, 1951.
Lamont's faith was very important to
him. He was baptized upon his confession of faith in 1942 and became
a charter member of the Walton Mennonite Church. In 1947, while
attending the triannual session of the General Conference Mennonite
Church in Berne, Indiana, he felt God calling him to the ministry.
After graduating from Bethel College, he trained and studied at
various seminaries, obtaining a Masters of Divinity degree.
Lamont was the pastor for several
churches through the years in Kansas and Pennsylvania. While in
Topeka, Kansas, he spent two years as a chaplain-in-training in the
Clinical Pastoral Education program at Topeka State Hospital. After
retiring from the ministry, he worked as a counselor and pastoral
service resource person for local clergy and hospitals in Quakertown,
Pennsylvania.
In 1982, Lamont and Lillian moved to
Richlandtown, Pennsylvania - to an old Victorian house. He enjoyed
restoring and remodeling the home, appreciating its woodwork. He also
enjoyed gardening, photography and family and church history. He made
a pictorial history album of his children's four grandparents for
each of them, including centuries-old photos, genealogies and
histories. Lamont and Lillian enjoyed traveling the country, spending
vacations sight-seeing, visiting antique shops and visiting their
beloved children and grandchildren. They also shared a love of
classical and choral music.
Survivors include his cherished wife,
Lillian; children, Alethea Woelk, LaNae (Scott) Hartvickson, Laurel
(Grace) Woelk, Linley (Cynthia) Woelk, Lyman Woelk; 11 grandchildren;
10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Larson.
Lamont was preceded in death by his
parents Alvin and Linda; and siblings Leland, Ardis and Loren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
directed to support the Music Department of Bethel College, 300 East
27th Street, North Newton, KS 67117.
