J. R. Frey
J. R. Frey, 68, 111 W. 6th, died Wednesday (June 15, 1994) at Newton Medical Center.
He as born July 1, 1925, in Newton , to Arthur J. Frey and Mabel Elder Frey. He married Evelyn M. Stucky on May 27, 1948, in North Newton. She survives.
A lifelong Newton resident, he retired in 1990 from a career in education as director of student services and counselor at Central Kansas Vocational-Technical School. He was a member of the Bethel College Mennonite Church and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1943 to 1946.
Other survivors include two sons, John of Athens, Ala., and Monty of Goessel; one daughter, Rebecca Rhoads of Omaha, Neb.; one brother, Virgil E. of Wilmington, Del.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at the Bethel College Mennonite church in North Newton with the Rev. Darrel Fast officiating.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen's Funeral Home.
Memorials may be sent to the Boy Scouts of America, Quivera Council or the local Boy Scout Troop #140, both in care of the funeral home.
