Obituary
Elnora Peters, 87, died Wednesday (June
22, 2016) at the Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
She was born on July 11, 1928, in
Roscoe, Texas, the daughter of Edwin and Esther Kiphen Althof. She
graduated from high school in 1945. Elnora married Arnold Kenneth
Peters on May 21, 1946, in Roscoe, Texas.
Elnora and Arnold moved to Greensburg
shortly after being married. There, they operated a grade A dairy for
many years and also started the Dairy Delite in Greensburg.
She was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Greensburg for 45 years, where she was the organist and
pianist. Elnora and Arnold spent winters in South Texas for 17 years.
They moved to Newton in October 2002. Arnold died on December 18,
2003.
Since living in Newton, she attended
Koerner Heights Church and was a member of the KCH Auxiliary. She
loved cooking, sewing and embroidering, and authored two cook books.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce
Martens and husband Lowell of Newton and Arnetta Boyce and husband Ed
of Allen; brother Edwin Althof, Jr. and wife Johnnie of Henryetta
Texas; sister Frances Hughes of Roscoe, Texas; eight grandchildren
and nine great-grandchildren; along with two son-in-laws, Ed Fenton
of Topeka and John Ford of Newton.
Elnora is preceded in death by her
parents; husband; two daughters, Peggy Jean Fenton and Dorothy Ann
Lane; three brothers, Wilburt, Raymond and Clarence Althof; grandson,
Donald Barker; and great grandchildren Adison and Austin Martens.
Memorial services will be held at 10
a.m. on Wednesday (July 6, 2016) at the Koerner Heights Church in
Newton.
There will be no visitation or viewing,
as interment services have already been held at the Fairview Cemetery
in Greensburg.
A memorial has been established at
Koerner Heights Church and Camp Christy. Contributions may be sent to
