Jack Douglas Atchison

Obituary

Prolific writer, entrepreneur, beloved father and grandfather, Jack Douglas Atchison, passed away in Newton, after a long battle following a stroke.

Born in Lansing, Michigan, and a proud graduate of Michigan State University, Jack had a deep love for story-telling, novels about World War II, Buddy Holly, playing cards, college sports and most of all his family. Jack was a successful accountant at Arthur Young before embarking on a career in business and writing.

The author of several novels and works of non-fiction, Jack was also an avid blogger about politics and culture. He spent most of his life in Michigan and Arizona, with his later years spent in Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents James R. Atchison and Marjorie Atchison Eirschele.

He is survived by his son Doug and wife Dalia; daughter Amy and husband Mike; his siblings Gary, Jann, and Mike; and his grandchildren Keiko, Charlie, and Eason.

Jack worked hard his whole life, was filled with a spirit of compassion and optimism, and inspired everyone he met to live their lives to the fullest. His family and friends love and honor him and will miss him dearly. A memorial will be held in his honor at the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington, Michigan, on Aug. 12. Donations in Jack's name can be made to A Place Called Home (www.apch.org).
