Jack Douglas Atchison
Obituary
Prolific writer, entrepreneur, beloved
father and grandfather, Jack Douglas Atchison, passed away in Newton,
after a long battle following a stroke.
Born in Lansing, Michigan, and a proud
graduate of Michigan State University, Jack had a deep love for
story-telling, novels about World War II, Buddy Holly, playing cards,
college sports and most of all his family. Jack was a successful
accountant at Arthur Young before embarking on a career in business
and writing.
The author of several novels and works
of non-fiction, Jack was also an avid blogger about politics and
culture. He spent most of his life in Michigan and Arizona, with his
later years spent in Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents
James R. Atchison and Marjorie Atchison Eirschele.
He is survived by his son Doug and wife
Dalia; daughter Amy and husband Mike; his siblings Gary, Jann, and
Mike; and his grandchildren Keiko, Charlie, and Eason.
Jack worked hard his whole life, was
filled with a spirit of compassion and optimism, and inspired
everyone he met to live their lives to the fullest. His family and
friends love and honor him and will miss him dearly. A memorial will
be held in his honor at the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington,
Michigan, on Aug. 12. Donations in Jack's name can be made to A Place
