Carl Ray Barber
1960 - 2016
Obituary
Carl Ray Barber, 55, of Newton, died
Wednesday (July 6, 2016) surrounded by his loving family. He was born
Aug. 21, 1960, to Carol and Archie Barber in Cherokee, Oklahoma. He
had three sons; Daniel, Anthony and Jeremy.
Carl was a family man who loved
spending time with his family. He drove a school bus in Tyron,
Oklahoma, for many years before driving for the Newton School
District. He always made sure he took care of "his kids."
Every year for birthdays and Christmas he made sure each kid that
rode his bus got a gift.
In Oklahoma, they had turtle races at
the end of the school year and, every year, Carl made sure to collect
enough turtles on his route to give every one of the kids a turtle
for the races. He enjoyed fishing with the grandkids when they were
younger. Carl played dominos, pinochle, cards and also coached
baseball.
Carl loved movies, especially westerns,
and "Walker Texas Ranger." He loved to read and his library
contained at least 1,000 books. Friends and family remember him as
the most likable guy; funny and ornery.
Carl is preceded in death by his
parents, Archie and Carol Barber; brother, Bill Barber; and
stepfather, Charles Cargill.
He is survived by sons, Daniel Barber,
Anthony Barber and wife Shannon, Jeremy Barber and wife Tanya;
brother, John Barber; sister, Dixie Johnson; grandchildren, Tatum
Barber, Katie Wilson, Kassie Barber and Maeghan Altman.
A Memorial Service for Carl will be at
2 p.m. Friday (July 8, 2016) at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton.
Memorial Suggestion: Caring Hands
