Obituary
Eugene A. "Gene" Love, 83,
died Thursday (July 7, 2016) at his Newton residence. He was born
July 27, 1932, outside Walton, to James E. and Gertrude (Friday)
Love.
Gene was a veteran of the US Navy
Reserves and US Navy Seabees, retiring after 22 years of service. He
worked for the former Kansas Gas and Electric (now Westar) from 1952
until his retirement in 1990.
Gene was known for his community
service work. He was active in Newton Jaycees, chaired many senior
all-night parties and worked the Harvey County Fair through the
years. Gene's biggest joy was giving his time and talent working with
Habitat For Humanity.
He is survived by his wife Betty of the
home; son Bruce and his wife Debbie Love of Pittsburg; daughter
Laurie and her husband Chris Whitty of Alice, Texas; ten
grandchildren: Jim, Jeff and Justin Love, Heather, Travis and Brendon
Whitty, Tressie Smith, Jason Smith, Chelsey Watts and Brandi
Cebulski. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
Gene is preceded in death by his
parents and daughter, Debra Lynn Allison.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m.
Saturday (July 9, 2016) at Meridian Convention Center on East
Broadway in Newton, with Chaplain Tim Shellenberg presiding.
The family will greet friends and
continue sharing with light snacks provided following the service.
Private family burial will be at a later date.
