Duane Haxton
Obituary
Duane Haxton, 73, died, Tuesday (July
12, 2016) at his Newton residence. He was born Oct. 19, 1942, in
Great Bend to Wallace Ray and Louise Emily (Werhahn) Haxton. On Sept.
14, 1963, he married Barbara (Barb) Meyeres in Chase and she survives
of the home.
Duane was a member of the St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Newton. He was a retired grocery manager for
Dillons and worked as a custodian for St. Mary Catholic School prior
to his retirement. Duane served on the Harvey County Sheriff's
Reserve for many years and he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and
fishing. He was an avid KU fan and enjoyed coaching his children's
baseball teams in years past. Duane greatest joy was that of a loving
husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Duane is survived by his wife Barb of
the home; son Tom and his wife Mijkin of Lindsborg; daughters Susan
Werth and husband Alan of Cincinnati; Lisa Calbert and husband Darin
of Newton and Lori Anderson and husband Greg of Newton; and one
sister, Shirley Long of Chase. He is also survived by 30
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents,
brother Larry Haxton and granddaughter Elyse Anderson.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m.
Saturday (July 16, 2016) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newton with
Reverend Nicholas Voelker, celebrant. Recitation of the Holy Rosary
will be prior to the Mass at 10 a.m. at the church.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9
p.m. Friday (July 15, 2016) at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family
receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Private family interment
will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary
Catholic School in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
