Bernice Rebecca Unruh, 81, died Tuesday
(July 27, 2010) at Asbury Park Healthcare in Newton.
She was born on Aug. 18, 1928, in
Newton to Julius and Martha (Wiens) Rutschman.
On August 25, 1946, she married Elmer
Unruh, and he preceded her in death on March 7, 2003.
Bernice was a retired billing clerk for
the former Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton. She also helped her
husband on their family farm in southeast Harvey County.
Bernice enjoyed gardening and cooking.
She was well known for her pie-making
skills.
Family and friends were important to
Bernice, and she greatly looked forward to spending time with her
loving friends and family, especially her 17 grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Gary and
Teri Unruh of Newton, Steve and Penny Unruh of Topeka, and Bruce and
Sherry Unruh of Wichita; brother, Marvin and Jane Rutschman of Dodge
City; sister, Lorene and Ron Grapengator of Newton; nine
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
husband, Elmer Unruh; brother, Alvin Rutschman; sisters, Ella Miller,
Delores Schenewerk, Florene Lettau, Julia Mae Decker and Blanche
Early; father, Julius Rutschman; and her mother, Martha Rutschman.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m.
today at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with the family receiving
friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at
Salem United Methodist Church in Newton with the Rev. Nancy Crowl
presiding.
Burial will be at Restlawn Gardens of
Memory in Newton.

Alzheimer's Association in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
