Velma J. Howard
1930 - 2016
Obituary
Velma "Vicki" J. Howard, 85,
died on Wednesday (July 13, 2016) at Newton Presbyterian Manor in
Newton.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1930, the
daughter of Augusta (Dalke) and John R. Klassen in Hillsboro.
She married Joe L. Howard on Sept. 15,
1950, in Newton, at the First Baptist Church. He preceded her in
death on Nov. 22, 1999.
Vicki retired from her clerical
position after many years of service at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita.
She had also worked at Newton Recreation Center in the office, and
was a former teacher's aide with USD 373 of Newton.
There were many activities and hobbies
in Vicki's life, and never a dull moment. She was very giving and
helpful. Vicki donated many hours of her time to community service
projects within the Newton community, such as the Newton Public
Library, Kaufman Museum of North Newton, Newton Medical Center, the
American Red Cross and Asbury Park. In 2003, she received the Woman
of the Year Award for Community and Civic Service.
The church was a big part of her life
as well. She held her membership with Trinity Heights United
Methodist Church and was a part of the United Methodist Women's
Groups and the quilting group. She had also served her church on
several mission trips to Guatemala and McCurdy, New Mexico.
If there was an activity to be done,
Vicki was a part of it. She lived a very active lifestyle and
experienced as much of life as she could. She was known for delicious
pies, her love for playing bridge and pinochle, as well as for her
square dancing. Vicki had a strong support of friends and family.
They will miss her presence dearly.

wife Tracy Howard, of Garden Plain, Greg and wife Margaret Howard, of
Chesterfield, Missouri; daughter, Priscilla and husband Steve Webb,
