Obituary
Vernon Rickman, 84, died on Dec. 27, 2013, at Kansas
Christian Home, Newton.
He was born on Aug. 4, 1929, to Theodore J. and Mattie
(Jordan) Rickman in Newton.
Vernon graduated from the University of Kansas with a
bachelor of art degree. He worked for more than 30 years for the Smithsonian
Museum of Art in Washington, D.C. He loved art and sculpting, having several
pieces on display with the Carriage Factory gallery in Newton.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Jean
Houston and LeMayne Jones; and a brother, Keith Rickman.
Survivors include his sister, Roselyn Villareal, Newton, and
nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2,
2014, at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. Gary Bell will be presiding. A
book signing will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013.
Memorials have been established with Good Shepard Hospice,
in care of the funeral home.
