Adena C. Nachtigall, 62, 406 Beverly, registered Nurse for Newton Medical Center, died Tuesday (Sept. 2, 1997) at the Newton Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 19, 1935, in Meade to Bernherd H. and Maria F. Classen Doerksen. She married Andrew Nachtigall on Dec. 26, 1958, in Meade. Ge survives of Newton.
She was a member of the Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church of Newton, charter member and Bible study leader for the Explores Community bible study group. She was actively involved in teaching at the church and was in charge of the P. A. system for many years. She also organized the church library in its current card catalog system and gave oversight to the library.
She was very committed to giving her children a Christian home and education. She also organized the block mothers program in Newton to help offer safe haven for children walking to or from home. She worked diligently at family genealogy. She attended Meade county grade schools and Meade Bible Academy. After high school she attended Bethel College and the Bethel Deaconess School of Nursing in Newton. She worked as a nurse in Kansas City. She served in mission work with her husband in Indonesia then, after a break, worked at Bethel Deaconess Hospital (now Newton Medical Center) from 1982 to present.
Other survivors include: two sons, A. Michael Nachtigall of Arlington, Texas and Mark A Nachtigall of McPherson; two daughters, Karen Kay Stahl of Pulaski, Iowa and Marie S. Nachtigall of Newton; four brothers, Bill C. Doerksen of Susanville, Calif., Pete Doerksen of Reedley, Calif., Ben Doerksen of Meade and Henry Doerksen of Hutchinson; two sisters, Helen Ediger of Meade and Tena Ediger of Hutchinson; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a. m. Friday at Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church with the Revs. David Plett and Loyal Martin officiating. Private family service willbe at Greenwood cemetery prior to memorial service.
Friends may call until 9 p. m. today at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p. m. at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established with the Mennonite Brethren Conference Missions and Berean Academy, in care of the funeral home.
