Ella M. Klassen Schmidt
Obituary
HESSTON - Ella M. Klassen Schmidt, 105, peacefully passed
away, with family present, on Friday (Nov. 15, 2013) at Schowalter Villa,
Hesston.
She was born on March 6, 1908, at rural Goessel to Peter J.
and Maria (Fehdrau) Klassen. She was a member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite
Church, Goessel, and married Ernst J. Schmidt in August 1927. They farmed near
Canton. She was a children's Sunday School teacher for many years and known for
the many outstanding wedding cakes she baked. She also loved music and family.
They retired in Hesston and joined the Hesston Mennonite Church, at which she
was active as her health permitted.
Ella was preceded in death by her husband, of more than 65
years, two sons-in-law, and one grandson.
She is survived by her children, Darlene (Frank, deceased)
Thiessen, Inman, Laura (Randolf, deceased) Flaming, North Newton, Melvin Dean
(Charlotte) Schmidt, Hyattsville, Mary., DeVera (Wiley) Wenger, Beaverton,
Ore., and DuMont (Barbara) Schmidt, Blue Mounds, Wis, 15 grandchildren, 35
great grandchildren, and 14 great, great grandchildren.
A service of celebration and remembrance will be 2 p.m.
Friday, (Nov. 22, 2013) in the Schowalter Villa Chapel, Hesston, with Chaplain
Wendy Miller and Pastor Amy Nissley Stauffer officiating. A graveside committal
service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday (Nov. 22, 2013) at the Alexanderwohl
Mennonite Church Cemetery, Goessel. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., with the
family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, (Nov. 21, 2013) at Miller-Ott
Funeral Home, Hesston. Memorial may be sent to the Good Samaritan Fund at
Schowalter Villa in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston, Kansas 67062.
