Obituary
Fern L. (Hayes) Phipps, 92, died
Wednesday (Aug. 24, 2016) at Kansas Christian Home. She was born
Sept. 3, 1923, in Mansfield, Missouri, to Lee and Amanda (Deatherage)
Hayes. She moved with her family to Kansas in early 1926, living much
of her early life in or near Whitewater until 1964 when she moved to
Newton where she lived until her death.
She was married to Harold D. Phipps on
Sept. 18, 1944, in Perry, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death. She was
also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and three
sisters.
Survivors include one son, James Phipps
(Vicki) of Oak Hills, California; two daughters, Rita Sadowski
(Allen) of Grantville and Robin Pinkerton (Jay) of Newton. Other
survivors include one very close niece, Janet Brittain (Byron) of
Newton; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; six step-grandchildren; and 13 great
step-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins,
all of whom she loved dearly.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday
(Aug. 26, 2016) at Petersen Funeral Home, with the family receiving
friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be in Greenwood
Cemetery, Newton, on Saturday (Aug. 27, 2016) at 10 a.m.
Memorials are suggested to Victory in
the Valley or Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
