Carol Haury Brubacher
Obituary
Carol Haury Brubacher, 79, of Winfield, passed away on Sept.
29, 2013, at Cumbernauld Village surrounded by family.
She was born on March 24, 1934, in Newton to Florence
(Haury) and Walter Buhler Enns. Carol graduated from Newton High School in
1952. She received her degree with highest distinction from Bethel College in
North Newton in 1956, and later earned her Masters Degree from Wichita State
University.
Carol married Jack Brubacher from Walton on Jan. 14, 1954,
in Newton. The following Christmas she joined Jack, who was based north of
London, and they toured France, Germany, Switzerland and Great
Britain.
While her husband was completing his work at Bethel College,
Carol began her teaching career in Newton. Following Jack's graduation, they
moved to Bryan, Texas, later to Kansas City, and eventually to Newton, where
their daughters were born. When the girls were teens, the family moved to
Winfield, where they continue to reside.
Carol and Jack celebrated their retirements in 1996 with
family and friends. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004 at
the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. Carol was active in PEO, various
professional organizations and loved attending concerts. She was a member of
First Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in activities including
Tuesday at Ten Bible Study.
Carol instilled the love of music in her daughters and
grandchildren, who were the pride of her life. Through her career in teaching,
Carol taught elementary and middle school in Newton, Bryan, Texas, and Arkansas
City, where she touched the lives of countless students whom she stayed in
touch with over the years.
She enjoyed traveling to numerous parts of the United States
for various family events, and enjoyed exploring new and different
restaurants.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and infant
daughter, Jacqueline Carol.
Carol is survived by her husband, Jack of Winfield;
daughters, Lisa Smyle and husband, Craig of San Antonio, Texas, Laurie Lisle
and husband, Kenneth of Edmond, Okla.; granddaughters, Jennie Burrow and
husband, Justin of Yukon, Okla., Courtney Garton of Edmond, Okla., Sean Smyle
and Evan Smyle of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Rosalind Andreas and husband,
Carl of Newton, Ellen Goering and husband, Don Brown of Boulder, Colo.; in
addition to a host of cousins, nieces and
nephews.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in
Winfield on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 10:30 a.m. A memorial has been established in
Carol's memory with First Presbyterian Church in Winfield.
