Doris Weber, 86, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Schowalter
Villa in Hesston. She was born April 5, 1927, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, to
Eden and Clara (Kellsey) Kinzie. She married Ralph Weber on Sept. 1, 1951, in
Kitchener, Ontario, and he preceded her in death in 1988.
Doris was a 1951 graduate of the nursing school at
Kitchener-Waterloo hospital. She worked for more than 50 years as a bedside
nurse in many locations from New York City to Newton. She retired from the
Newton Medical Center in 2001. She was an active member of Shalom Mennonite
Church in Newton, where she served as parish nurse providing medical support to
many church members in their time of need. She was also an active small group
member, head of the kitchen committee for many years and involved in many
church related projects.
Doris also enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Emma
Creek Quilt Guild. She greatly enjoyed sharing her quilted creations with
family members and friends. She also loved to tend her vegetable and flower
garden. She was generous with her home grown vegetables and flowers. Her flower
arrangements were enjoyed by many at the church.
Doris enjoyed spending her time volunteering at Mennonite
Central Committee and with her friends at the Royal Red Hatters social club.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many and will be greatly
missed.
She is survived by her son, Jim Weber and his wife, Jean of
Newton; daughters, Ruth Stephens and her husband, Mike of Beatrice, Neb., and
Miriam Dale of Emporia; grandchildren, Jeff Weber and his wife, Sara of
Lawrence, Julia Weber and her fiancé, Gavan Petersen of Newton, Aaron Claassen
of Santa Rosa, Calif., Emily Claassen of San Francisco, Calif., Rachel Dale of
Overland Park, and Janelle Dale of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Kinzie Weber,
Kaden Weber-Gonzalez, Kaylynn Weber, Ben Weber and Isabelle Stephenson; sister,
Ruth Rosenberg, Tavistock, Ontario; sister-in-laws, Doris Bechtel of Waterloo,
Ontario, Helen Horst and her husband, Nelson of St. Jacobs, Ontario; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Weber;
parents; and sisters, Edith Wanner and Helen Kinzie.
A celebration of Doris' life will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct.
15, 2013, at Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton, with Pastor Sarah Dick
presiding. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Monday, with the family receiving
friends from 6:30-8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. Private family interment
will take place.
