NEWTON - Robert I. Williams, 86, of Newton, died Monday
(Oct. 14, 2013) at the Newton Medical Center.
He was born on May 24, 1927, in Argonia, the son of Ward and
Nettie King Williams. Robert was raised in the Argonia area, and after the
death of his father the family moved to Newton, where he graduated from Newton
High School in 1945.
Robert married LaVeta D. Scheffler on Jan. 26, 1957, in
Nortonville. They farmed east of Newton until moving into town on Aug. 13,
1992.
Survivors include his wife, LaVeta; sons, Neal Williams and
wife, Sheila, and Steve Williams, all of Newton; sister, Myrtle Sparling of
Wichita; grandchildren, Tonya Cowan and husband, Tom, Ryan Williams and wife,
Jay, Nathan Williams and wife, Jess; and great-grandchildren, Colbey and Kyleigh
Williams and Taysley Cowan.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers,
Eldon, Earl, Loren and Wayne; and sisters, Edythe Gum and Claidine Coleman.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 17, 2013)
at the Salem United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Greenwood
Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 1-9 p.m.,
where the family will receive friends between 6:30-9 p.m.
A memorial has been established with the Walton Rural Life
School, Newton E.M.S., and the Salem United Methodist Church. Contributions may
