The Newton Kansan

Thomas R. McAdow

Obituary

Thomas R. McAdow, 73, passed away at his home Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, in New Plymouth, Idaho.

Tom was born April 17, 1940, to Floyd "Tuffy" McAdow and Nadine Troutwine McAdow in Newton. Tom attended Newton schools and graduated from Newton High School in 1958. On June 7, 1959, Tom married Karen Lambert, and they had three children: Donna (McAdow) Funk, Deanna (McAdow) Puckett and Darrel McAdow.

Tom was a supervisor for the Coleman Company for 25 years and then went to work for H & S Products in Wichita. For the love of the mountains, Tom relocated to Idaho, operating Teton Machine and later owning and operating Bear Mountain Machine & Tool with his son Darrel.

Tom married Janice Gooch in 1992. Later Tom retired and sold the business to his son Darrel. After retiring from the machine shop, he continued his life-long passion of gunsmithing, Bear Mountain Gunsmithing at his home.

Tom was one of the first hunter safety instructors for the state of Kansas. He was an avid outdoorsman and big game hunter, including several grizzly bears. He spent many a weekend in the mountains on his 4-wheeler, until his health would no longer allow it.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Janice of the home; daughters, Donna (Mark) Funk, Deanna (Rick) Puckett, all of Newton; son, Darrel (Ronya) McAdow of Idaho; step-daughters, Tina (Angela) Corriere-Gooch of Idaho, Lisa (Steve) Saito of Oregon; grandchildren, Shelby (Tyler) Schroeder, Colton and Cassidy Funk, all of Newton, Kristen (KJ) Toombs of Pittsburg, Kara and Landon Saito of Oregon, Cole Gooch of Idaho; two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Levi Schroeder of Newton; sisters, Judy Cable of Missouri, Mereta (Randy) Higgins of Idaho; brothers, Larry (Tootie) McAdow of Halstead, Ronnie (Deb) McAdow, and Donnie (Bev) McAdow, all of Idaho; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Although cancer weakened his once strong body, he remained to the end a man of great strength and dignity, with deep concern for his family.

Cremation has occurred, with his ashes to be distributed over the mountains at a later date. Memorial service will be Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament, 829 S.W. Second Avenue, Ontario, OR 97914.
