Obituary
NORTH NEWTON - Richard D. Harms, 87, of North Newton, passed
away on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at his home in North Newton.
He was born on Jan. 31, 1926, in Hope, the son of W.W. and
Anna Thiessen Harms. He grew up on a farm three miles north of Goessel. He
worked as an optician for the Hertzler Clinic, Halstead, for 20 years.
A member of the Hesston Mennonite Brethren Church, he had
also sung with the Mennonite Men's Chorus for 30 years. He liked to fish and
work with wood. On Aug. 22, 1950, he married Wanda Heinrichs in Lehigh. She
survives.
Other survivors include his son, Ron (Gwenna) of Great Bend;
two granddaughters, Adrienne (Randy) Griffitts and Tiffiney Harms; two
great-grandchildren, Madison and Jordan Griffitts; two brothers, Wilmer of
North Newton, Verden (Pauline) of Hillsboro; one sister, Eflrieda Thomas of
Lincoln, Neb.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin; and one
sister, Phebe Just.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., with family receiving
friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home,
Hesston. Graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at
Springfield Cemetery, rural Goessel, with a memorial service to follow at 11
a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at the Hesston Mennonite Brethren Church, with
Pastor Brad Burkholder officiating.
Memorials may be sent to either Kidron Bethel or the Hesston
Mennonite Brethren Church Building Fund, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home,
Hesston.
