Obituary
Clarence Burton Myers, 89, died Sept. 6, 2013, at the Newton
Presbyterian Manor.
He was born Aug. 12, 1924, to Fred and Thelma (Justice)
Myers in Kenny Heights.
The day after graduating from Toronto High School in 1943,
Clarence enlisted in the Navy and was on the Yorktown Aircraft Carrier for 32
months during World War II. After an honorable discharge, he worked for the
Rock Island Railroad for one year, Coleman Company in Wichita for 10 years, and
Cessna Aircraft in Wichita for 29 years.
On Oct. 4, 1975, he married Eleanore Entz. They were married
for almost 38 years.
In 1982, Clarence retired from Cessna Aircraft and a year
later they moved to Rock Hill, S.C., where he and Eleanore joined The Gideons
International. They were active members of the Neely's Creek Associated Reform
Presbyterian Church and later the West End Baptist Church in Rock Hill.
In 1999, they moved back to Kansas and to the Newton
Presbyterian Manor until his death. He enjoyed the spiritual environment there,
and the weekly men's Bible class. He was an active member of the Grace
Community Church, the Gideons International since 1983, a life member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the International Association of
Machinists and Aerospace Workers for more than 50 years.
Besides his wife, those who survive include: a son, Ronald
Lee and wife, Carolyn Myers of Rock Hill, S.C.; a daughter, Cynthia Lou and
husband, Stuart McKee of Wichita; daughter-in-law, Jessie Myers of Moab, Utah;
12 grandchildren, Eric Myers, Amanda and husband, Howard Trenholm, Bryan and
wife, Candy Myers, Barry, Julia, Sara Myers, all of Moab, Utah, Eddie and Jimmy
Myers and Crystal and husband, Rodney Peterson of Rock Hill, S.C., Candy Powell
of Wichita, Jenny and husband, Cody Silvio of Wichita, and Tony Myers of
Wichita; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; a sister,
Judy and husband, Dan White of Orange, Va.; a sister-in-law, Betty Myers of
Culpepper, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father,
W.J. Steele; first wife, Betty Seegrist; son, Clarence B. Myers Jr.; a brother,
Don Myers; three sisters, Dixie Lee Myers, Linda Lou Myers and Joanne and
husband, John May; and granddaughter, Stephanie Mae Lawrence.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept.
11, 2013, at Grace Community Church. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 3 to 9
p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
to greet friends.
