Harry L. Swift
Obituary
NEWTON - Harry L. Swift, 75, passed away surrounded by his
family on Sept. 23, 2013, at Wheat State Manor, Whitewater.
He was born Sept. 8, 1938, at Strong City, the son of
William and Ruth (Granger) Swift. He proudly served his country with the United
States Navy.
On July 17, 1963, he was united in marriage to Rosalind J.
"Rosie" Carter at Potwin. Their union was blessed with three
daughters. Harry managed Newell's Truck Stop for many years, then later took a
maintenance position at Newton Medical Center.
Harry was a member of the American Legion for nearly 50
years. He loved to fish and spend time with his wife and family.
Harry was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Swift;
and his siblings: Virginia Perkins, and Donald, Jim, Francis, Vernon and
Richard Swift.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Rosie of Newton;
daughter, Tammy Swift and her spouse, Mike Schommer of Newton; and daughter,
Christa and her spouse, David Mellinger of Valley Center; and four
grandchildren: Stephanie Jo Swift, Connor Schommer, Cody Mellinger and Ashton
Mellinger.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8
p.m., and the funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013.
All services will be held at Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater. Interment with
military rites will be in the Matfield Green Cemetery.
Memorial funds have been established for Alzheimer's
Association or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, in care of Lamb Funeral Home, 120
S. Main, Whitewater, KS 67154.
