Obituary
Rose Marie (Llamas) Martinez, 73,
passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday (Sept.
17, 2016) at Kidron Bethel in North Newton. Rose was born on April 2,
1943, in Newton, the second daughter of seven children to Guadalupe
and Marian (Saenz) Llamas.
Rose was a kind and generous person who
always had a smile for everyone. She graduated from Newton High
School and attended Bethel College. Then, she attended cosmetology
school to become a licensed cosmetologist. She married Julian T.
Martinez on June 6, 1970. They divorced in 1979. Rose loved kids and
spent many years providing care for children in her home.
Rose was a member of Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church, where she volunteered and was active on
the Altar Society for many years. She also served as the previous
President of the Mid-town Towers Tenants Association and served on
the Newton Housing Board.
Rose is survived by her companion and
best friend of 30 years, Jack Malek; her daughters, Kimberly Sue
Martinez of Newton and Jacqueline Marie Martinez Pullen and her
husband Robert Pullen of O'Fallon, Missouri; her sister Sue and her
husband John Rangel of Newton; her sister Mary and her husband George
Short of Wichita; her brother Mark Llamas and Gloria Arellano of
Newton; five grandchildren Jesse, Thomas, Maya Rose, Marissa and
Mason; and a number of other relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; and brothers Gary Llamas, Phillip Llamas and Guadalupe
Llamas, Jr.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday (Sept. 20, 2016) evening at Petersen Funeral Home and from 5
pm to 8 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 21, 2016) at Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Church.
All are invited to attend the rosary at
7 p.m. Wednesday and the funeral mass at 10 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 22,
2016), both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Both will be
led by Father Edmund Kline. Burial will be in the Prairie Lawn
Cemetery, Peabody, with Father Darren May Presiding.
