James "Jim" Runnells

Obituary
On Wednesday (Sept. 21, 2016), James
"Jim" Runnells died, joining his beloved wife Joan
(Timmie).
Born on Sept. 25, 1928, he is preceded
in death by his parents Clarissa and Marion, sister Jody and his
brother Milton.
Jim is survived by seven children:
Diana (Mike) Roberts, Janice Puttroff, Mark (Alysia) Runnells, Patti
(Barry) Hardman, Carol (Ed) Salsbery, Jim (Jodi) Runnells and
Rosemary (Darrell) Boger; twenty grandchildren and eighteen
great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry
Runnells.
Jim joined the Navy in 1944 and was
transferred to the Construction Battalion (Seabees). He served four
years active duty then entered the Reserves, retiring in 1976.
He went to work for KG&E/Westar in
1952 and after 38 years he retired in 1990.
Jim loved dancing with his wife,
daughters and granddaughters. He liked to fish and boat in his
retirement, but he enjoyed spending time with his family the most.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be
said at 7 p.m., Monday (September 26, 2016) at Broadway Colonial
Funeral Home in Newton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10
a.m., Tuesday (September 27, 2016) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Newton. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home
Monday after 1 p.m., where the family will visit with friends between
2 and 4 p.m.
A memorial has been established with
the building fund of St. Mary's Catholic Church or Caring Hands
Humane Society. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial
