Oletta Carol Zehr Miller
HESSTON - Oletta Carol Zehr Miller, 82, died at Schowalter
Villa, Hesston, on Aug. 17, 2013.
She was born on Sept. 2, 1930, at Darien, N.Y., and was the
oldest daughter of the late Harold and Magdalene (Overholtz) Zehr.
On Aug. 15, 1964, she married Virgil Miller, who died in
2009.
She is survived by a brother, Duane Zehr, Henderson, N.Y.,
Kenneth Zehr, and sister-in-law, Audrey Zehr, Harrisonburg, V.A., as well as
many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Earle, Abram, and sister-in-law, Ardie Zehr,
preceded her in death.
Oletta served one year in Mennonite Voluntary Service at the
General Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. She attended Hesston College, Goshen
College, and received her B.A. degree in home economics from Friends
University, Wichita. She taught for 25 years at Erwin Junior High School in
Hickman Mills, a suburb of Kansas City, Mo.
After retirement, she and her husband, Virgil, moved to
Newton, then to Hesston. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She had a
special gift for designing and piecing quilt tops for Schowalter Villa, as well
as for Whitestone Mennonite Church, where she was a member. Many people
appreciated her beautiful quilts, demonstrating her expertise and creativity.
Her last quilt sold at a Schowalter Villa auction in 2012, with proceeds going
to the Schowalter Villa.
The Kenneth and Audrey Zehr family, and Lonabelle and James
D. Yoder, wish to thank Schowalter Villa and Harden Hospice Kansas for their
loving care of Oletta. We also thank the members and clergy of the Whitestone
Mennonite Church for their care and their part in conducting Oletta's funeral.
Inurnment will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Hesston. Memorial
services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Schowalter Villa
Chapel, Hesston, with Pastor Peter Hartman officiating.
