Obituary
WHITEWATER - Helen Claassen, 93, passed away July 30, 2013,
at Newton Presbyterian Manor of Newton.
She was born May 20, 1920, in Goessel. She was the daughter
of Henry and Katy (Buhler) Voth.
On Oct. 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Herbert
Claassen. Their family would grow to include three daughters. They farmed in
rural Potwin, and upon retirement she moved into Whitewater. She was active in
the Emmaus Mennonite Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Claassen;
her twin brother, Herman Voth; siblings, Stella and John in infancy; and
sisters, Martha Busenitz and Ann Penner.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Jeanette Claassen
of Garden City, Cheryl Baker and husband, Don of Tulsa, Okla., and Jocelyn
Shields and husband, Randy of Potwin; four grandchildren: Chris Baker of Tulsa,
Okla., Gayle Marban and husband, Alex of Anchorage, Alaska, Mitch Baker of
Tulsa, Okla., and Taylor Shields of Hays; two great-grandchildren: Haven and
Dominic Marban; and a sister-in-law, Dora Voth.
All services will be held at Emmaus Mennonite Church of
Whitewater, with the visitation on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m., and the funeral
service at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013. Interment will precede the funeral
service at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Emmaus Cemetery.
