Edgar Thiessen
Obituary
WHITEWATER - Edgar Thiessen, 84, passed away Aug. 26, 2013,
at Wheat State Manor in Whitewater.
He was born July 16, 1929, at Newton, the son of J.E. and
Marie (Wiebe) Thiessen. He graduated from Berean Academy. On Sept. 12, 1953, he
was united in marriage to Rosalie Meschberger at Stafford. He was a farmer and
stockman, and later a small business owner.
Edgar served in prison ministry for 65 years, singing with a
quartet and leading Bible studies, as well as serving on the Board of Prison
Fellowship. The quartet he sang with also enjoyed 45 years of serving local
nursing homes and other functions. Edgar served with Gideons International for
more than 30 years.
Edgar and Rosalie opened their home to an enumerable amount
of children and people in need of a place to live and be loved. He was an
active member of Emmaus Mennonite Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie, and three
siblings, Marie, Henry and Martha Thiessen.
He is lovingly survived by his children, Ike of Potwin,
Carvin and wife, Judy of Hesston, Kyleen DeJone and husband, James of Kenya,
Africa, Regina Johnson and husband, Ken of Loveland, Ohio, Stephen and wife,
Kristin of Whitewater, Kendra Schultz and husband, Eric of Prague, Okla., and
Nathan of Whitewater; a brother, Wilferd and wife, Gladys of Whitewater; 25
grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and
countless others who lovingly called him "Dad."
All services will be held at Emmaus Mennonite Church of
Whitewater, with the visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday evening, and the
funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. The
committal service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Emmaus Cemetery.
