Obituary: Dorothy Louise Miller
KS_Newton — Dorothy Louise Miller, 93, died Monday (June
24, 2013) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
She was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Aberdeen, Idaho, the daughter
of Herman J. and Susie Neuman Toevs. Her father died while Dorothy was a child.
Dorothy married Lester R. Miller on March 26, 1951, at First Mennonite Church
in Newton. He died on June 27, 1999.
After graduating from Aberdeen High School, Dorothy rode the
train to Newton, where she attended nurse's training at Bethel Deaconess
Hospital. She later attended Creighton University in Omaha to become a Nurse
Anesthetist. Dorothy returned to the Newton area, where she worked as a Nurse
Anesthetist in Moundridge, Goessel and Halstead. She would work in the Central
Supply at Bethel Hospital until retiring.
Dorothy was a charter member of Newton Bible Church, a
Source of Light volunteer, and she enjoyed china painting, knitting and
quilting.
Survivors include daughter, Susan Porter and her husband,
Gary of Wichita; son, Steve Miller and his wife, Marj of Joliet, Montana;
grandchildren, Brenda Fleming, Kelsey Miller, Anne Miller, Aaron Miller, Susan
Towne and Rebecca Kandt; six great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Lester R.
Miller; father, Herman Toevs; mother, Susie Schmidt; step-father, Herman
Schmidt; sisters, Florence Bartsch and Elda Andres; step-brother, Paul Schmidt;
and step-sister, Wilma Voth.
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday
(June 29, 2013) at Newton Bible Church. Friends may call at the funeral home
Friday 1 until 8 p.m.
A memorial has been established with the Missions Fund of
Newton Bible Church, and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be
